The festive season is approaching fast and it’s again time for MTG’s traditional Christmas concert. This year’s concert is being held on Wednesday 14 December at Eric Ericsonhallen, Skeppsholm’s Church in Stockholm, in support of Playing for Change.
The charity Playing for Change has been set up by MTG and other companies within the Kinnevik Group in support of the UN convention on children’s right to play. The charity supports social entrepreneurs operating in areas where they reach the most vulnerable children in Sweden, Ghana and soon Russia. This year it has a special focus on tolerance, respect and anti-racism, following the tragedy that happened in Norway this summer.
Singers and choirs will do their best to give the audience some proper Christmas spirit in an evening of joy and entertainment led by TV host Sofia Rågenklint. The artist line-up consists of, amongst others, famous Swedish rock band Takida, currently taking Germany by storm, Swedish singers Thomas Di Leva and Loreen as well as American singer Chris Medina from American Idol who touched the audience’s heart by sharing his success with his fiancée, seriously brain damaged in a car accident, for whom he is a full time carer. They will be performing with the choir One Voice and the children’s choir You Can Sing Gospel Kids.
At Christmas time, charities like Playing for Change feel even more important, as this is the time of year when the message of love, warmth, hope and joy is being spread. But for many children the reality is very different. They experience isolation, violence and abuse in their broken families and this does not stop because it’s Christmas. MTG actively supports organisations and projects that help vulnerable children. Fighting for these children’s rights to a playful Christmas is an important part of MTG’s Modern Responsibility work.
Tickets to the event cost 500 SEK and can be bought on www.tickster.com (Julkonsert). The money raised through the ticket sales will go straight to Playing for Change. The concert will be broadcast on TV3 and TV8 in Sweden, and aired on MTG's radio channels RIX FM and Lugna Favoriter during the holidays.
