Viasat is the brand for the digital satellite TV platforms operated by MTG in the Nordic region, the Baltic states and, since 2008, in Ukraine.

Viasat’s digital satellite TV platforms in the Nordic region broadcast a total of eight own free-TV channels and 21 own pay-TV channels as well as a wide range of local and international third party channel brands. Viasat Nordic introduced ViasatPlus (PVR, personal video recorder) in 2005 and ViasatHD in 2008. The banner on the start page of MTG’s website is from a current campaign in Sweden.

The digital satellite platforms in the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) total eight own free-TV channels and nine own pay-TV channels as well as a wide range of local and international third party channel brands.

The satellite TV platform Viasat Ukraine, a joint venture with Strong Media Group, became the first licensed digital premium satellite operator in the country. Viasat Ukraine offers a wide range of Ukrainian, Russian and international third party channels, as well as Viasat’s six own branded pay-TV channels in the region.

Viaplay was launched as Viasat OnDemand, an online video streaming service only, in May 2007, providing a broad selection of feature films, live sports events and TV series for Sweden, Norway and Denmark. In October 2008 it also became the brand name for the on demand TV service through the recordable box for Viasat subscribers in Scandinavia.

As of 1 March 2011 the brand name became Viaplay to reflect the enhancement of the service. It enables subscribers to use a single ID and password to access Viasat pay-TV content on any internet-connected device. This ‘OTT’ (over the top) portable solution is the first of its kind in Scandinavia, and provides internet access to thousands of hours of streamed movies, sports coverage, TV series, and catch-up services of favourite free-TV channels.

Online

A number of TV series are available for free and a whole lot more – including live sports such as UEFA Champions League, Formula One, MotoGP, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the European Golf Tournament, and blockbuster movies – are available as pay-per-view.

Local language versions of Viaplay are available in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

Viaplay is also available through an application that has been developed for Android enabled smartphones and tablets. För iPhone and iPad it's possible to access the content through the browser.
