MTG completed the acquisition of 100% of AS Latvijas Neatkarīgā Televīzija – at the time the country’s second largest free-TV operator, broadcasting the national channel LNT, the Russian language channel TV5 and the entertainment channel Kanals 2 – in June 2012.
Kanals 2 is a general entertainment channel showing a locally produced reality show as well as acquired programmes targeting a predominantly young audience.
The channel was born out of dedicated music channel, LMK, which launched in 2006. In 2012 the channel was rebranded Kanals 2 and the programme offering was expanded beyond music videos and concerts to include TV series.
