Playing for Change Social Capitalist of the Year 2010

Playing for Change has been named Social Capitalist of the Year 2010 in the category big businesses at the awards presented by Swedish news magazine Veckans Affärer in collaboration with Sparbankerna. The prize was awarded on 5 July in Almedalen.

The Social Capitalist Award is being awarded for the fourth year in a row and is handed out to a person or organisation which manages to marry good business with social responsibility.

In 2009 Playing for Change was launched as a collaboration between Kinnevik, Korsnäs, Metro, MTG, Tele2, Transcom, and the Hugo Stenbeck Foundation – in order to support social entrepreneurs who work with children’s and adolescents’ right to play.

Playing for Change marks the first time in the history of the Kinnevik Group that the companies are making a joint effort if this kind. The highly ambitious goal set is to contribute to a better society through entrepreneurship and a business mindset.

“We have been working very hard throughout the last year to get the first Swedish incubator in support of social entrepreneurs going – we are proud to have been awarded this prize. Playing for Change aims to be part of creating a better and more playful world for children and adolescents. That is why we invest in social entrepreneurs, so that they get the chance to develop their ideas which have the potential to positively change the world,” says Sara Damber COO of  the Hugo Stenbeck Foundation.

Playing for Change supports eight selected entrepreneurs, who will receive a salary for between one to three years as well as professional support and advice from the Kinnevik Group to help realise their ideas.

Playing for Change is present with its Playmakers / social entrepreneurs at Almedalen during the entire week. One of them, Viktor Brobacke (Klubb Killers, Tangopalatsi, Barnens Underjordiska Scen) and his Ceféz are present in Visby harbour on Tuesday and Wednesday 12-4 pm. Come and meet him, along with the other social entrepreneurs from Playing for Change there!
